Greetings in Christ!

This is the day that the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it!  Let us rejoice in the steady, soaking rain overnight and into this morning, and let us be glad for our rejuvenated lawns and gardens!  While it’s not a great day to be outdoors (at least not in the morning as we’re writing this), it’s a great day to enjoy a second mug of coffee or tea and to linger over the newspaper or your favorite TV shows.  As the day progresses, the weather looks to improve a bit, so maybe we’ll all be able to get in a stroll or a bike ride later!

It’s been another tumultuous week in our world, with unexpected changes in the political landscape in the United States, ongoing wars in Eastern Europe and the Middle East, and another season of wildfires that our friends in Western Canada are struggling with.  Thanks be to God that we have a safe place to retreat to, that place being in the presence of the Lord Almighty, so that we can face the storms of life.  The lyrics of the much-loved Rodgers & Hammerstein song “You’ll Never Walk Alone” come to mind when the road gets bumpy; in case you’ve forgotten them, here they are:

When you walk through a storm                         Walk on through the wind
Hold your head up high                                         Walk on through the rain
And don’t be afraid of the dark                            Though your dreams be tossed and blown
At the end of the storm                                         Walk on, walk on, with hope in your heart
There’s a golden sky                                               And you’ll never walk alone
And the sweet silver song of a lark                      You’ll never walk alone

Hope.  That’s the key to facing up to life’s challenges, along with joy, peace, and love.  As children of God, hope is ours to claim, so that we can walk on; and never walk on alone.  God is with us, always.

Blessings,

Karen and Greg
