Greetings in Christ!
This is the day that the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it! Let us rejoice in much cleaner air today, and let us be glad that the direction of the wind is keeping the smoke at bay for the time being. We must continue to pray for our friends in Canada, as there are still hundreds of wildfires burning, and it is likely that some of the smoke from those fires will impact us in the future. Today is cool and breezy and sunny, and we could easily be convinced that it’s mid-April or mid-October, but we feel it is our pastoral duty to remind you that it’s July; summer is still with us!
While the weather outside is decidedly non-summerish, and it is likely that at least some of our plans have been disrupted as a result, our commitment to service in the kingdom of God has to continue. As mentioned above, our Canadian brothers and sisters are facing a tough battle against fires; let us pray for them, and let us seek means to support them. Our world is engulfed in wars; let us pray for peace, and let us seek ways to offer relief to those whose lives are being turned upside-down by violence. Our nation seems to be at odds with itself; let us pray for calm, reasoned debate, and let us work for unity (not uniformity). Members of our families are in pain; let us pray for healing and whole-ness and patience in the process. And let us pray for joy. Let us pray for love. Let us trust in the Lord, who wants only good things for all of us; which at times requires that we get out of the way and let God be.
